Meet Your Lifestyle Director: Dylan Read

At Shearwater, Dylan Read is ready to put the “life” in lifestyle. As Shearwater’s new Lifestyle Director, Dylan will lead the community’s lifestyle programming and activities. He is excited about creating a fun and inviting environment for residents, whose input will shape many of the planned events and activities. “From the 13 miles of trails to the future kayak launch on Trout Creek, Shearwater is the ideal community,” says Dylan. “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to create truly memorable experiences that will leave residents wondering why they did not move in sooner.”

Dylan is originally from Tampa, but most recently served as Lifestyle Coordinator for SouthWood in Tallahassee. There, he facilitated engaging events and programs, including a 4th of July community celebration that attracted more than 3,000 people. An avid outdoors enthusiast, Dylan counts hiking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, camping and biking as some of his favorite activities. He is working on a certification from the American Canoe Association and is looking forward to teaching Shearwater residents about canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. The youngest of three boys, Dylan also enjoys all aspects of filmmaking, from cinematography to set design and special effects.

With the holiday season fast approaching, Dylan has jumped in to coordinate exciting events tailored specifically for the community and its residents. Many of these events take full advantage of the great amenities at Shearwater, including the oversized Fitness Lodge with a cardio room, 13 miles of nature trails, the Lazy Bird River, resort-style Lagoon Pool and multi-lane Lap Pool. In early October, Dylan has scheduled a special “S’mores and More” event, a bring-your-own-tent camping extravaganza on the Event Lawn with ghost stories, campfire songs and the ever-popular graham cracker-marshmallow-chocolate dessert. Dylan is also planning a Haunted Boardwalk that will combine Shearwater’s expansive nature trails with St. Augustine’s haunted history. Additional exciting events include a Fall Festival, Harvest Gathering and Cookies with Santa.

Many more programs and activities are in the works, including movie nights on the Yoga Lawn and by the pool, as well as running groups, fitness classes and neighborhood parties. All of Shearwater’s community programs are designed to forge strong connections between neighbors because Shearwater is a Vital Community™, based on the five principles of healthy living, engagement, design, connectivity and stewardship.

Shearwater is a new community, so we will actively seek residents’ input on programming,” said Dylan, whose office is located in the Kayak Club. “We have the flexibility to mold programs and create exactly what our residents want, asking them for input on day one and requesting feedback on a regular basis as the community evolves,” he added. “I am really looking forward to working with residents to grow Shearwater into a successful, highly-desired community that people love to call home.”

We’re excited to welcome Dylan to the Shearwater team and know he’s eager to meet you. Please stop by his office at the Kayak Club to say hello. His office hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and the door is always open!
