Shearwater, a New Residential Community in St. Johns County Opening in Fall 2015, Announces School Attendance Zones

St. Johns County, F.L. – Freehold Communities has just announced additional details about Shearwater, its newest community crafted for active families, outdoor enthusiasts, and those who appreciate scenic beauty in northern St. Johns County.

The 1,500-acre community features a unique sanctuary at the headwaters of Trout Creek which incorporates over 600 acres of native landscape and more than a dozen miles of trails winding throughout tracts of preserved habitat. Shearwater is a family-focused community that was intentionally placed in St. Johns County, currently ranked in the top 10 school districts in the country, according to a recent Forbes Magazine and greatschools.org research study.

The public schools for which Shearwater is zoned include:

  • Timberlin Creek Elementary School (adjacent to Shearwater)
  • Switzerland Point Middle School
  • Bartram Trail High School

Timberlin Creek Elementary School is located at the entrance to Shearwater, where a paved pathway will connect Shearwater residents directly to the school. The pathway will be separated from main roads and connected to the multi-purpose paths, allowing children to walk or bike to and from school safely, a high priority for the Shearwater community.

“Families continue to relocate to St. Johns County to provide their children with high-quality public education which better prepares them for higher education, while living a higher quality of life as it is one of the most desirable, family-oriented locations in Florida,” said Vikki Powell, a local realtor with 15 years of experience in the market. “Shearwater’s lifestyle will provide many benefits to families seeking social activities, nature and a positive environment in which to raise children.”

The epicenter of the vibrant, family-focused community at Shearwater will be a multi-dimensional clubhouse, the Kayak Club, which will offer a variety of gathering spaces and event venues to host an eclectic calendar of events year-round. An on-site Activities Director will coordinate community events and recommend neighborhood offerings that best align with families’ composition, personal goals, and lifestyle needs. The heart of the community will also include a Fitness Lodge, slide tower, “Lazy River”, resort-style lap and swimming pools, playground areas, sports fields, and four illuminated tennis courts. A kayak and canoe launch will be constructed on Trout Creek during the second development phase in order to take advantage of the extensive natural landscape, in addition to multiple parks, trails, and fields within the 600-acre expanse.

Shearwater is a Vital Community that embraces healthy living, engagement, connectivity, stewardship of nature, and distinctive design. These values translate to every aspect of development as construction of the community infrastructure and amenities continues. The Shearwater Grand Opening, planned for Fall 2015, will offer future residents the opportunity to meet with builders, explore home floor plans, and learn more about life at Shearwater.
